Top 4 Trailer Accessories
Unlock even more of your trailer's potential with the right accessories. Some are aftermarket purchases, some are do-it-yourself projects, but all of the below items can improve your towing experiences.
1. A Trailer Hitch Light
Added lighting helps improve visibility, which can make using a trailer easier and safer. Many folks focus on the trailer or tow vehicle lights, but the hitch lighting can also be improved.
A trailer hitch light boosts visibility during the hitching process and the cargo loading process. This is especially helpful for those who use their trailer later in the evening or at night.
This type of trailer accessory is usually magnetic, allowing users to easily mount the backing plate where they like.
2. A Ramp
Some cargo can be loaded without using a ramp, but it can be much easier to use a ramp! Instead of lifting heavy items up onto the trailer, you can simply walk up the ramp and place them down. The more often you tow items, the more your knees and arms will appreciate the ease of loading.
This trailer accessory is usually easy to install thanks to ramp kits. Connect the ramp, load the cargo, then disconnect the ramp. If you want to use the ramp again at the destination, load it onto the trailer and take it with you.
3. DIY Storage for Fragile Items
Some fragile items can be awkward to transport in a trailer. For example, pipe or drywall corner beads. Their long length can be tough to position in the trailer. That's where a little do-it-yourself trailer accessory making comes into play.
Gather a large PVC pipe, an end cap, a cleanout adapter, 4 J-hooks, and PVC cleaner and adhesive. Prime and glue the end cap and cleanout adapter. Connect the PVC pipe to the trailer's side. Secure the J-hooks, then put the tube in place. Anytime you need to transport those items, simply slide them into the secure PVC pipe.
4. DIY Storage for Tools
Some tools, such as rakes and shovels, can also be difficult to transport in a trailer. PVC is again a helpful resource.
Start by drilling a hole in the end cap for proper drainage. Cut 36-inch lengths of PVC pipe, glue on the end cap, and attach the pipe. This will allow you to store items vertically inside the PVC pipe. This keeps cargo secure and frees up space inside the trailer for more storage.
